Students and professors at Budapest’s Eötvös Loránd University are protesting Ministry of Human Resources plans to eliminate several undergraduate fields of academic study at ELTE’s faculty of social sciences. Forums are planned for Monday night to discuss the unwanted changes.
A faculty member from ELTE’s social science department told daily news portal VS.hu that an “information strike” is currently taking place at the university, meaning that a discussion will take place regarding the future of the university at the beginning of lectures.
Students have called for a student-faculty forum to take place on Monday evening. Students from the universities of Szeged, Corvinus and Pázmány will also be taking part as a show of solidarity with the ELTE protesters.
A similar situation is taking place at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics where students have organized a forum to protest the ministry’s decision to cut programs there.
