Hungarian opposition party Democratic Coalition (DK) has filed a criminal complaint against Hungarian National Bank governor György Matolcsy (pictured) and his deputy, Ferenc Gerhardt, for their “falsely reported declaration of assets”.
In a press release to Hungary’s state-run news service, DK politician László Varju said both central bank officials failed to report “millions of monthly income” in the declarations of assets.
Matolcsy’s “foundations stuffed with HUF 250 billion may play a role hiding [Matolcsy’s] personal income,” wrote Varju, in reference to the National Bank’s controversial decision to endow a number of foundations with central bank “profits” arising from its activities.
Earlier this week Hungarian news website Magyar Narancs published an article showing that Matolcsy and Gerhardt failed to report taxable income received from two of the foundations.
