election

Eight settlements in Hungary are holding ten by-elections today to choose mayors and/or city councillors either because municipal elections were not held on October 12 for lack of candidates, or there was an electoral tie between two leading candidates, or the elected mayor subsequently resigned.

The settlements are:

Fancs (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplém county) where two independent candidates received the same number of votes last October.

Tanakaj (Vas county) where there was no candidate for mayor last October.

Bozzai (Vas county) where one of the four candidates for city council was also elected mayor, leaving one city council spot vacant.

Valkony (Zala county) where there was no candidate for mayor last October.

Zalamerenye (Zala county) where two mayoral candidates tied for first place after one of the votes cast was declared invalid.

Kishajmás (Baranya county) where there were not enough candidates for city council last October and the elected independent mayor subsequently resigned.

Tengeri (Baranya county) where two candidates for mayor received the same number of votes last October.

Szorosad (Somogy county) where two independent candidates for mayor received the same number of votes last October.

Polls open at 6am and close at 7pm.
