“It is not possible to sign an agreement with the Russians that is made secret for ten years.  That we may not know precisely where, who and how it influences our lives, and exactly on the basis of what economic calculations they expect Hungary to strengthen or weaken as the case may be.  This is our lives!  This is not the government’s business.  This is our lives, dear friend!  And who takes from us and the elected representatives the right to familiarize itself with reality, and only announces 48 hours beforehand that something is under way, he, in reality, executes a putsch against the Hungarian constitutional order, the representatives of the Hungarian people, and the entire Hungarian people.”

A video of an address made by Viktor Orbán in 2008 while his Fidesz party was in opposition exposes the depths of the hypocrisy of Hungary’s current Prime Minister.

In his speech during a debate on possibly expanding Hungary’s sole nuclear power plant at Paks, Orbán categorically rejects the notion of any agreement signed with Russia on atomic energy matters being classified, even for ten years.

On Tuesday Hungary’s Fidesz-KDNP-controlled parliament passed a law classifying for 30 years all business and technical information related to the construction of new reactors at Paks by the Russian Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom).  The decision to do so has been denounced by opposition leaders and civil leaders alike, who are urging President Áder not to sign the law.
