Milan Rozsa, civil activist, dead at 26

November 7, 2014

Civil and gay rights activist Milan Rozsa reportedly committed suicide by stepping in front of a train last night.  He was 26 years old.

In February of this year Milan climbed over the fence of the Russian embassy in Budapest to conduct a one-man protest of the Kremlin’s repressive policies towards gays and lesbians (pictured above).  He was arrested last week for alleged involvement in an attack on governing party Fidesz headquarters following a large-scale protest of plans to introduce a tax on internet use.

Milan was one of three activists who scaled the presidential palace earlier this year as part of a protest against the contract concluded between Hungary and Russia for the construction of two nuclear reactors in Paks, Hungary.  An interview with him and fellow activists can be read here.
