RTL Klub banned from parliament indefinitely

November 20, 2015

Hungarian news site 444.hu is reporting that RTL Klub, Hungary’s largest commercial television station, has been banned from the parliament indefinitely for allegedly violating house rules.

According to a letter sent to RTL Klub, a member of the television broadcaster’s film crew left his or her camera turned on in a hallway where cameras aren’t allowed to be turned on.

The letter does not precisely state when the incident happened.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister’s press officer did not allow RTL Klub to attend a joint press conference held by Prime Minister Orbán and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. RTL Klub’s film crews recorded the Prime Minister’s press officer, Bertalan Havasi, calling on the security guards to remove the RTL Klub crew.

Only representatives of the state-run press were permitted to enter the press conference.
