Hungary’s state-run media reports that, according to the national police, more than three thousand refugees and migrants were apprehended at the border over the weekend.
In total, 3,287 illegal border crossers were reportedly detained on Hungary’s border between Friday and Sunday.
The police said 1,516 were detained on Friday, 847 on Saturday and 924 on Sunday. Five individuals are under suspicion of engaging in human trafficking and twelve people are under suspicion of carrying fraudulent official documents.
The most illegal border crossers were detained in southern Csongrád county.
On Sunday, 659 people were detained in Röszke, among them 77 children.
The government of Hungary plans to build a fence along the Serbian border to keep out unwanted migrants.
