Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó gave an interview to CNN Wednesday night and said Hungary has been showing plenty of solidarity throughout the refugee crisis.
When asked whether Hungary as a recipient of large EU fiscal transfer should show more solidarity with other EU countries in management of the refugee crisis, Szijjártó responded that Hungary is pulling its own weight.
According to Szijjártó, Hungary is the only country that can say it has stopped illegal immigration into the EU at its own borders. What’s more, Szijjártó went on to point out that Hungary has done quite a bit for Austria and Germany by preventing the passage of refugees to those countries through its own territory.
The foreign minister stated that he believes solidarity is also shown by not putting additional burdens on the shoulders of Austria, Germany or Sweden.
Szijjártó said Hungary’s solidarity can be measured by how it protects the Schengen zone.
